Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t here yet but the temperatures are definitely increasing and that means it’s time for cooling season. Before the temperatures soar and you’re running your air conditioning unit 24/7 to stay comfortable, go ahead and call your AC maintenance technician to stop by and conduct your annual ac maintenance.

In addition to an air conditioning tune-up, there are several other ways you can get ready for the cooling season before higher temperatures are officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

No, we aren’t implying that you should take your air conditioning unit apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the area around your unit to remove twigs and debris that have made their way to your A/C system during the windy winter and stormy spring. Keep the grass trimmed around the A/C and trim back any overgrown shrubs or vegetation to make sure your air conditioning unit is clear of debris. Clearing the air way can help keep your air conditioning unit running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

BW/Cook Service Experts will change your home’s basic air filters when they complete your air conditioning tune-up as part of your regular A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also swap out your HVAC air filters in between maintenance visits, and it’s advised that you do so at least every 30-60 days for optimal performance. If you don’t change your air filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of the people living in your home and the efficiency of your air conditioning equipment, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your standard A/C system service. Note that a clogged filter could actually damage your AC equipment.

  • Block the Sun

Help keep your home cooler by hanging blackout drapes or window shades to help keep the sun from heating up your home. These window coverings may also help protect your furniture and floors from fading or enduring sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t spend daylight savings checking the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors, now it the perfect time. While you’re at it, check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is running properly so you don’t end up calling an AC service technician because your air conditioner isn’t turning on and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider installing a smart thermostat so you can adjust the temperature while you’re away and save money on your utility bills.

An annual AC tune-up service could make your A/C unit up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your utility bills. Call BW/Cook Service Experts today to make sure your cooling equipment is ready to keep you cool and comfortable all summer and find out about our spring specials on air conditioning tune-ups.
