Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last of the weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during cold nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than going to bed at night just to find out your furnace won’t turn on. If your furnace won’t turn on, here are a couple things you can check yourself before calling BW/Cook Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters monthly. If you do not, they can become clogged, obstructing air flow and causing your furnace to malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but confirm the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch wasn’t accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you review all these things and your heating equipment will still not kick on, give BW/Cook Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 574-218-6404 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
